My name is Sherri Harris and I live on a rural property west of Toronto, ON with my husband and our foster cat Shadow. We are passionate outdoorspeople and spend our weekends and vacations canoeing, kayaking, cycling, hiking, cross country skiing or snowshoeing. Learning how to whitewater canoe opened up new doors and allowed us to do extended river trips in remote northern Ontario and the Northwest Territories. It’s how we recharge our personal batteries. I also love to travel.
I started my career in Accounting and Finance. I received a B.A. in Finance and Economics at Western University. I worked in Accounting and Finance for approximately 12 years, moving up through the ranks into middle management and obtained my CPA, CMA on a part-time basis along the way. I was tasked with managing the implementation of financial software and I was hooked! From that point on I worked as a project manager and never looked back. I obtained my Project Management Professional (PMP) designation and continued to manage projects that typically related in some way to Accounting or Finance.
Managing projects allowed me to hone different skills, primarily communication, networking and managing people without the benefit of a reporting relationship. Meeting tight deadlines and maintaining attention to detail were skills I needed to apply in both my accounting and my project management roles.
I’m now embarking on the next chapter in my career, becoming a technical writer.
